Hidden Blessings

Do you ever go through a weekend in utter chaos? You may be in the comfort of your own home or a guest in someone else’s. Your newer eater makes a mess at every meal and I’m not talking crumbs, I’m talking about food covering the entire floor. Your toddler has clothes and toys covering every inch of the house. You are trying to remain calm but you are about an inch away from screaming at everyone who walks in front of you.

In those moments, those chaotic head banging against a wall moments, remember just how blessed you are to be surrounded with loved ones.

When I was a little girl, I lost my mom. I still have trouble to this day handling that loss and the tears still roll down my face. In that dark moment, I was surrounded by family who just poured love on me. I am an adult now with my own family and those family members are still present in my life. I have so many who I can talk about for days but this post is a special thank you to my aunt and uncle who have been there for me for my entire life. And now my kid’s lives.

My aunt and uncle lived right down the street from me when my dad moved me to Cincinnati. I loved walking to their house and seeing them, especially my two little cousins. I grew up feeling like a part of their family and to this day, I still feel like those two cousins are my younger siblings.

I know they love me and always have my back because when I was getting married, I got a call from my uncle. My uncle who is also my God father. He can kick the jokes around like the next best comedian but he had some solid marital advice. He told me “Kara, I know your wedding you will be having fun and there will be drinks. Do me a favor, don’t drink before the ceremony. This is a huge step in front of God and this isn’t to be taken lightly”.

When we went to their lake house, I was terrified my kids were going to break something, make too big of a mess, or just be too darn loud. Let me tell you…… they were all of that. But my aunt and uncle loved all their chaos. They became my kid’s best friends the moment we walked through their door; these hidden blessings are all around us. We just have to pay attention. I just needed to be in the moment to watch my uncle teach my daughter how to use binoculars. I needed to watch my aunt teach my son how to pet their cat gently, even though he failed. I needed to see them wash a few extra blueberries because my kids love those. They went above and beyond to ensure my kids were comfortable and could feel love. Because of that, I am blessed to have them in my life.
